An ongoing rehearsal is an artistic space created by improvisor and scholar Nduduzo Makhathini to grappling with the ways in which black aesthetic(s) is fugitive. The idea of motion and sonic is something that holds well with the notion of improvisation, and this constant seeking to created and simultaneously let go of your own creation. It is a modality of surrender with itinerant artistic expressions. 

In this particular presentation, Makhathini invites Maestro Herbie Tsoaeli who is a leading light in South African jazz, particularly, within local sensibilities and definitions of this music. Tsoeli’s work explores various notions of time that Makhathini has studied in the many years of playing in the African Time ensembles.
